This is downright disturbing.
A 66-year-old black man was fatally stabbed at random by a white supremacist who was visiting New York City solely to gain maximum exposure for his hate crime.
James Harris Jackson (above, insert) surrendered to the police shortly after midnight on Wednesday, a day after his victim Timothy Caughman (above, left) stumbled into a police station bleeding from stab wounds to his chest and back.
Assistant Chief William Aubry told press that the 28-year-old Baltimore resident traveled 200 miles on a bus to NYC “to make a statement” by hunting down black men with a 26-inch sword.
After initially focusing on another black man three blocks away, Jackson targeted Caughman at random about 11:30 p.m. Monday, piercing the victim’s chest just above his heart. The 18-inch blade reportedly went through his chest and exited his back before pinging against the sidewalk.
“I’m the person you’re looking for.”
Police arrested the racist on a charge of second-degree murder, but the chief says they want to upgrade the charge to a hate crime, given Jackson made no secret he came “to target male blacks.”
The army vet found Caughman, a homeless bottle collector with a penchant for taking photos of himself and celebrities, on the streets in Midtown, Manhattan when he plunged the sword he bought online into the defenseless man.
After the assailant fled the scene, a bloodied Caughman stumbled two blocks to the Midtown South Precinct stationhouse. Paramedics rushed him to a local hospital, but he could not be saved.
In custody, Jackson told police he was a member of a white supremacist group and admitted to harboring deep hatred towards black men for years. The attacker, who just served over three years as a military intelligence analyst, reportedly told police he wanted to stab a black man, then grab a cop’s gun and “shoot some people.”
Needless to say, this senseless act of racially-charged violence sparked a firestorm of social media outrage.
#TimothyCaughman. A human being. Dead because another human being, fueled by hate, racism, and white supremacy, “wanted to kill Black men.” pic.twitter.com/NhD9llGRZg
